of the Ships firemen died from pneumonia the Drs & Nurses had a great struggle but the poor fellow died early this morning & was buried at 4.30 p.m. We all paraded at the stern of the ship alongside the big 6" gun & as the Padre said "unto the deep we commit his body", four sailors tilted the board & the body shot out & down – hope we have no more of it. I have not spoken a dozen words to the Nurses they are quiet & fully occupied – they are not good looking by any means.
We have stationery bicycles & rowing boats &c in fact all sorts of weird instruments to get the poor cripples some exercise for their limp &
