just beginning to give a nice light & looks lovely on the water – but the wind is quite cold so did not stay long – well if all goes well we shall be at C[ape] T[own] early Saturday morning, we have still hope of getting to Melbourne by 4/11/18 in time to see the great Melbourne Cup run.
Thursday 10.10.18
Weather fine but cool sea calm – usual inspection men are keeping troop decks, cutlery, &c in first class order. This afternoon we had the final of the Tug of War – and Victoria was declared winner . Tonight we saw the Southern Cross for the first time (for many of us) for four years.
