a girl in white standing at the end of the break water, she commences to semaphore with two small flags & is quite an expert she says Australians you are welcome but sorry there is little chance of you coming ashore we are sorry for you but will do our (Y.W.C.A.) best to send what we can to the ship – as we passed her she waved her flag jumped into a car & drove away. I am informed she is about 25 years old & is the daughter of a Dr Campbell at Durban & is a great worker. The last Australians here before they left presented her with silver hair brushes &c.
