keep it up too long – I posted my letters & sent 2 cables so hope they get to their destination safely – our A.I.F. [Australian Imperial Force] Representative came on board for returns &c so took my letters &c, have also asked him to send an Iced Cake to Fircroft.

Sunday 13th Oct[ober] 1918
Weather Fine & warm, Sea calm, Table Mountain looked splendid not a cloud about and the Township nestling at the foot looked all that could be wished and yet death was being dealt out hourly.  We had Communion & Church Service as usual which included prayers for both white & black inhabitants ashore – C[hurch] of E[ngland] collection amounted to £2-11-8 &
