very fine - an old friend of mine Lt Col E Martin 34th Regt was with me and as he had lived in that part of England previous to going to Australia 28 years ago he was able to give me many interesting items of the people living between Rugby & Liverpool - he was astonished to find so much land under cultivation - mostly beans, wheat (dark color) & oats.  We arrived at L'pool at 5 pm & our carriages were then detached & taken down to the wharf alongside the ships. We found 100 officers (600 wounded & sick NCO's & men) & about 100 others on board - accommodation very good indeed.  Dinner quite in the old style plenty of sugar & no coupons - could have whatever we liked.  The ship drew out from the wharf into
