R[oman] C[atholic] 11/-, afternoon passed off quietly – took on 250 tons of drinking water during the day, a big tug boat use to steam out & connect up to our water tanks then pump the water aboard – each trip she brought 6600 galls[gallons].

Again the weather is lovely, a big barge was brought alongside convey 200 tons of coal & 50 niggers, the coal is hauled up on to our deck in bags 10 at a time & the niggers get hold of them and run along the deck dumping the coal down the shutes, they are a happy race always laughing & shouting to one another – we have been
