Weather fine but strong cold head weather – we did not sight land until 6 am, we were delayed during the night as we had a very strong wind against us – this morning the mine catchers were put out each side & we travelled only at 9 miles an hour so did not reach the harbour at Cape Town until about 12 midday when a tug dashed out & we were told to drop anchor about ¾ miles from shore – later another tug came out & I recd a letter from the Dist[rict] Commandant of C[ape] T[own] saying on no account were Offrs [Officers] or others to be allowed to go ashore as there was a terrible outbreak of Spanish influenza.
