Tuesday 12 Nov[ember] 1918
Weather calm but cold wind – the great & glorious news of the surrender by Germany & the end of this awful war was recd by us early this morning, what rejoicing there will be throughout the world, how I would love to be in Blighty to take my girls out from Fircroft but such a pleasant matter is now beyond me. Today we held a Thanksgiving Service at 3 pm, which took the form of a short Church Service with special hymns. Tonight the Captain of the Ship agreed to let us have some wines (but not whiskey or beer) for dinner to celebrate this the greatest
