Sunday 3rd Nov 1918
Weather fine – sometimes sunny sometimes rain but worst of all jolly cold.  Fancy this is the 7th Sunday I have been away from Fircroft.  Suppose it is cold there by this.  Church Services as usual this morning.  Collections C[hurch] of E[ngland] £2-1-6½  R[oman] C[atholic]s 15/- so you see the widow & orphans of the English sailors are still being remembered by Australians.  One Offr [Officer] named Sheldon painted a picture & we raffled it ½ to go to the late ships firemans widow the other ½ to an Australian Charity – the affair was not taken on too well but still I got another 25/- out of it for the widow so in all our fellows alone gave £70 & the Ships people £45 – I believe the Captain cabled the amount to
