all his mates laughing & rolling their eyes – they are a happy race.  I threw 6 coppers over & the scramble was just like a Sunday School scramble amongst children after sweets.

This is a fine city & harbour much before Cape Town – we hope to get away Tuesday morning & arrive at Freemantle [Fremantle] in 15 days after, then after disembarking about 110 Offrs [Officers] & other ranks we go for 5½ days until we reach Melbourne, shall we not be heartily sick of this ship – what glorious war news we received today if I had been at Fircroft am afraid I should
