supplied with Blankets, Tea, Sugar, bread and flour. Once accustomed to these luxuries they could not afterwards dispense with them, and hence numberless robberies were perpetrated; these were often resisted, and then succeeded numerous murders. The half tame mobs were the first to commence, and they again instructed the wild tribes. Luxuries without civilization are but baits to savages. I am however not aware that they were addicted to the smoking of Tobacco, or using it in any way.

I am anxious to do justice to every one, and not to detract from the merits of any. Mr Robinson possesses claims on the colony, and they have not been disappointed. He had large grants of land bestowed on him with additional sums of in money, amounting altogether to about £8000. When the Blacks had been captured, meetings were held in several districts and a subscriptions were raised for him.
