the question is involved in great perplexity. I entertain no doubts that Colonel Gawler's intentions were good, but I fear that the mode of proceeding with the Aborigines will excite reprobation at home.

In conclusion I must repeat that it is not improbable that a few scattered parts of this narrative may have been published elsewhere, but they can be but few. The public records have been consulted with great care, and the other journals and manuscripts from which I have extracted are actually in my possession.
