In until November [1828] 1830 that the first regular operations for command commenced for made of resisting the depredations and encroachments of the hostile aboriginal tribes. His Excellency Sir George Arthur found it his duty to afford protection to the Colonists, but at the same time to restrain that impetuosity and thirst for of [indecipherable] which might be expected from men proceeding in pursuit of the black the on after having run witnessed the numerous victims who almost daily fell sacrificed to the murderous tribes which pressed so hard upon the inhabited districts of the island.

His Excellency sent Circulars to all the Police and other Magistrates craving their assistance and vigilance for putting a stop to the incursions of the black natives. The reader will best be able to understand the nature of the warfare which was then carrying about to be carried on by a reference to official documents. In reply to
