six miles to the westwards of Waterhouse and observed that the country was all in a blaze. Having left the two women on this eminence, I returned to the Boat and having prepared some eatables dispatched two men to the spot who remained with the two women during the night. On the day following the native Women proceeded towards the smoke, and succeeded in falling in with the strange mob, and having made friends with them, obtained their consent to accompany them us to the Boat
They consisted of eight men and two woman, two of the males and one female who had formerly absconded from Mr Robinson and belonged to the Stony Creek Tribe. On inquiring their reasons for this conduct they stated to be that "Nannalarguna" (the native chief) one of Mr Robinson's escort had killed three of their
