The future historian would feel perplexed on finding that no account of the earlier stages of the colony are to be found in the records. All previously to 1824 would have been involved in conjecture and obscurity had I not at this precise time stepped forward to offer my humble services to the public, inadequate as are my abilities and to do justice to a very interesting subject.
