it is well known that within the colony there existed a great laxity of morals; concubinage with other similar vices existed in a great degree, and hence the illicit intercourse between the whites and the native women was described as something perfectly proper and natural.
This intercourse is designated in Mr Evan's book as "a faithful, affectionate and jealous attachment". The present notions of the morality in the colony at the present period are far different from those entertained in 1828.
