In the course of the 20th and 21st the whole of these Blacks together with their Dogs were placed in security on the island. Their spears 17 in number were deposited wit the Civil Commandant at Launceston.

On the 31st Ult. having observed a smoke inland to the South West of Cape Portland, I proceeded from Waterhouse Point with the boat to a large River near Ringarooma Bay, and having left the boat with three hands, I set off in pursuit, accompanied by two Native Women and two of the crew. After travelling two days through a very thick forest, I succeeded in coming up with another Native. This was a middle aged man, and who had formerly made his escape at separate periods from a party of Sealers and from Mr Robinson.
