Hydra Gynandria Diandria
Cal. Sheath scattered; fruitstalk undivided.  Cap. none.

Bloss Petals 5, awl-shaped, with the edges rolled inwards, reflected; the lateral 2 the smallest.  Nectary within the petals, very large, pendant, with the edges rolled upwards; on the inside with 2 parallel longitudinal lines ending in 2 prominent glands.

Stam. Filament none. Anther very large, united, covered by an appendage of the nectary of 2 cells.

Pist. Germen beneath, oblong, scored, crooked, thickest upwards. Style very short. Summit an oblong closed cavity.

S. Vess Capsule oblong, 1 cell, 3 valves, 3 keels.

Seeds numerous, like saw dust.

Root composed of a few thick fibres. Leaves from the root, on long thick leafstalk, spear shaped, very smooth, with only one [indecipherable], somewhat like the leaves of Alisma Plantago, but smaller, of a yellowish green, with transverse crooked lines, of a darker green color.  Stalk from 18 inches to 2 feet high, smooth, with several sheathing scales, somewhat compressed on the upper or flowering part. Petals yellowish green. Nectary very large longer than the petals, embracing or protecting the organs of generation, of a brown color on the upper part, with longitudinal purple lines on the inside ending in prominent glands.  Hood covering the anthers fixed on the underside the style, covered on the outside with a thin lacerated membrane. Anthers seemingly without filaments, covered partly by the 2 celled hood, & partly by the style
