Pist. Germen roundish, toothed at the top.  Style none.  Summits 3, notched at the end, expanding.

S. Vess.  Capsule globular - egg-shaped, with 3 cells, 6 valves, and crowning it with 6 teeth.

Seeds solitary, 1 in each cell.

In the summer months both sexes have leaves on the young plants, which are nearly sessile, egg shaped, with distinct teeth, rolled back at the edges, alternate; upper ones spear shaped. Stipule with bristle like teeth. Summits notched at the ends, of a dark crimson color.

I have frequently found male plant plants whose flowers had 10 stamens, & in 1 flower I found 11. Male flowers 3 together.  Female flower solitary, in the axilla of the leaves  When there are 10 stamens, the calyx has 5 clefts, Summits reddish-purple. Each valve of the capsule terminates in a tooth, which crowns in a radiated manner.
