Broughtonia
Cal. Cup with 3 divisions; leafets very small, roundish, expanding.

Bloss. Petals 3, roundish, expanding, larger than the leaves of the cup, placed alternately in the divisions.

Stam. Filaments 3, longer than the cup, expanding. Anthers small, roundish, with 2 cells.

A shrub, a foot high, with many erect  branches, which are hairy on the upper part.  Leaves in threes, on short footstalks, of an oblong oval shape, slightly hairy. Flowers solitary, from the axilla of the leaves, on short reddish peduncles  Calyx of a dull white, tinged with red. Blossoms the same color, petals placed alternately with the leaves of the cup. Stamens 3, a little longer than the cup, placed alternately with the petals, to the receptacle, under, but in the divisions of the germens. Pist. It is doubtful to say, whether this is a male plant. The germens appear as if abortive, & the surrounds cannot be properly distinguished.  It has in many respects an affinity to Empetrum.

I have since found it to be monoicous [also spelt monoecious]
