Hexandria Monogynia.
Cal. Cup 3 leaves, egg-shaped, keeled, coloured, concave, permanent.

Bloss. 3 petals, egg-shaped, concave, shrivelling, standing in the divisions of the leaves of the cup. 

Stam. Filaments 6, 3 fixed to the middle, & 3 to the base, within the divisions of the petals, awl-shaped. Anthers double.

Pist. Germen superior, roundish. Style thickest towards the bottom. Summit blunt.

S.Vess. Capsule somewhat globular, covered, opening at the top with 3 cells, 3 valves.
Seeds 3 cornered.

Leaves in bundles, awl-shaped; leaf scales cottony.

Has much the appearance of Spergula, with slender thread like branches. Leaves in bundles, with awl shaped reflected hairy, membranaceous scales at the base, cylindrical, tapering into an awl-shaped point; fruit stalks very long, thread-like, smooth. Flowers generally several together, forming a little head, with a few egg-shaped hairy membranaceous scales at the base. Calyx with a spear shaped brown keel, in other parts white & shining; petals light crimson. Capsule when minutely inspected appearing to have 6 valves, but the 3 extra ones are only darker colored lines. Seeds some of them 3 square, but in some of them the sides are unequal.
