Cal. Umbel with few spokes, (generally 3 to 5)) expanding. Umbellules with more, very short, expanding.
General Involucrum of as many leaves as there are spokes, bristle shaped; partial of more leaves, unequal, very small. Cup not perceptible.
Bloss. General, uniform. Florets in the center barren. Individuals petals 5, equal, egg-shaped, bent backwards
Stam, Filaments to 5, awl shaped, nearly as long as the petals, bowed inwards Anthers double, roundish, fixed sideways.
Pist. Germen beneath. Styles 2, expanding. Summit blunt
S.Vess. none. Fruit roundish, a little compressed, divisible in to 2. Seeds 2, oblong, slightly compressed, warty, convex & scored on one side, flat on the other.
This shrub is an inhabitant of rocky ground, and, generally about 3 feet high. Its bark is of a yellowish brown. The branches mostly come nearly from one place, and surround the stems in a whirl like manner. Leaves scattered, bristle like, upright, flat on the upper side, convex underneath. Umbels terminal, diverging. Flowers white.
I have never found stamens in the fertile flowers, nor pistils in the barren ones. Plant of a strongish smell when bruised.
