This shrub sometimes branches out into a large bush; but it frequently is slender in growth, & from 2 to 4 yards high, very slender and straight, towards the top breaking out into flowering branches The younger parts covered with a white down. Leaves alternate, egg-shaped, sharp, on footstalks, smooth on the upper surface, downy underneath; the fruit stalks are also the same Flowering branches panicled, downy. On the branches of the panicle are often the rudiments of a flower or two, with a small sack at the base, Involucellum, spokes of the umbellules, & outside outside of the petals
