Jacksonia
Cal. Cup 2 leaves, beneath, egg-shaped, upright, concave within, permanent.
Bloss. Petals 5, somewhat egg-shaped, tapering at each end, expanding, shrivelling.
Stamens Filaments 5, thread shaped, standing alternate with the petals. Anthers small, double.
Pist. Germen egg-shaped. Style none. Summits 3, expanding, downy.
S. Vess. Capsule egg-shaped, of 1 cell, opening with 3 valves.
Seeds numerous, roundish, very small.
A weak succulent plant. Stem smooth, branching, trailing. Leaves spear shaped, alternate, shining, the lower ones, the lar-est, flat on the upper side, cover underneath. Flowers forming a long naked spike. Petals pink color. Anthers of the same color. Summits white, pubescent. Capsule covered by the calyx & the shrivelling petals, opening at the base. The valves cannot well be seen until the capsule opens. The petals being firmly twisted around the capsule upper part of the capsule, prevents it from opening there first - I suspect it belongs to Tetrandria, & the flower from which the character was taken was a lusus naturae - Seeds brown, very finely dotted. Grows on rocks where there is a constant moisture.
