The shrub from 1 to 3 feet more in height. Stem compressed. Branches numerous, frequently rising nearly to the same height, compressed Leaves alternate, placed on short foot stalks, arising from the edges of the stem & branches, upright, the lower ones nearly oval, ending in an absolutely minute point, but as they ascend gradating until they become very narrow and spear shaped.  Stipulae in pairs, at the base of the leaf - stalks very small. Flowers solitary, proceeding from the axilla of the leaves, in an irregular manner; fruit stalks shorter than the leaves, smooth, with a few small stipulae at the base, and a pair a little higher up, Calyx smooth, with a prominent sharpish brown ridge on the upper part, terminating in the 2 upper teeth teeth slightly pubescent at the edges, the 3 lower sometimes reflected.
