Male flowers
Cal. Cup 3 leaves, egg-shaped, fleshy, expanding, colored

Bloss. Petals 3, egg-shaped, fleshy, smaller than the cup, standing in its divisions

Stam. Filaments none. Anthers 3, united, furrowed, ending in 3 open sharp points

Female flowers
Cal. Cup beneath, with 3 small leaves, egg-shaped, pressed close to the germen, permanent

Bloss. none

Pist. Germen very small, a little swollen,
Style very short & thick.  Summits 6, awl-shaped, upright

S. Vess. Capsule orbicular, with 6 cells, & 12 valves

Seeds 2 in each cell, convex on the outside, & with a sharp angle on the inside

Grows in rocky ground by a small rill of water - A small tree, the wood of which is very heavy.  Bark of a grey color. Leaves absolutely winged, on short foot stalks, leafets somewhat egg-shaped, very smooth & shining on both sides. Stipule very small. Male flowers placed beneath the female ones, axillary, solitary, on slender fruit stalks, Calyx & petals yellow.
