and that I was required to rejoin that Department as soon as the ship on which I was employed returned to Sydney. This news came as a great shock to me, as it was one of the last things in the world I expected.
The SS Katoomba was advertised to leave for Sydney at 4pm, so this being the finest ship employed in the Australian Coastal Service I decided to catch her. By 3pm I had returned to the ship obtained my ports and was alongside Katoomba. Fortunately there were a few saloon berths available so my arrangements were completed.
