The smell was almost stupefying. On the way back to the ship we had afternoon tea at a pretty refreshment room. 2nd, Purser & self only had a light tea and then went into town for dinner at 7pm. We had a very nice meal at the Royal and then went to a Variety show. From here we hired a rickshas and caught the 11 oclock ferry to the Ship.
Wednesday 15th Sept. Coaling having finished 1400 tons having been taken aboard in the one day we were at 6 oclock this morning taken to a loading berth at the town wharf, where cargo for Sydney was loaded throughout the day. Most of it is cargo landed from the "Benalla" after the fire she had aboard.
