returned to Australia straight away, or went trooping to France or the Dardanelles. But when I received my mother's, father's, brothers and sisters letters full of love and anxiety on my behalf my heart yearned for home, and from that time forward I have been most anxious to return with as little delay as possible. Though I have been on the ship for 7 months I have not described her, nor my fellow officers. The ship itself is a German prize, captured in Melbourne. She was formerly the N.D.L. cargo liner "Hessen" of 3206 tons nett and 5099 tons
