diminish the strength of signals. Most stations work on a 600 metre wave so very little alteration to the adjustment is necessary. The phones are kept over the ears throughout the watch. Entries have to be made in a log book of all signals overheard. Throughout my watch I read or write, at the same time being on the alert for signals. When relieved at 8pm I paced the deck to get some fresh air into my lungs before turning in.
