Have just finished reading Dickens' "Barnaby Rudge" and now remember that the day I went out to Epping with Fr Davidson he had pointed out Chigwell to me, as we went by it in the train. It appeared to be a pretty place on the top of a hill, built facing Epping forest. As I had not then read the novel which immortalizes the name of the place, it had not the interest for me that it has now.
