No impression has at any time excited upon my mind that you contemplated such interference, or that there was any legal process by means of which it could have been in your power to stop the completion of the Sale of the property to Messrs. Clive & Hamilton which had in fact been already effected in London. 

The amount of your claim was not stated at the time of the conversation above referred to – nor has it been communicated to me at any time since – and conceiving it to be merely for the ordinary supplies requisite for the Establishment at Collaroy during the current quarter, or at the most from the beginning of the year 1840, I entertained no doubt that it would be paid by Mr. Davidson. Of the subsequent transactions between yourself & Mr. Leslie which you now mention as having taken place in the month of July 1840, I was in complete ignorance until I heard as matter of
