Friday 28th October 1844

My dear Sir

I dare say the circumstance of the sale of Mr W. S. Davidson's property of Colleroi in this Colony to Mr E. T. Hamilton & Mr George Clive as well as the valuation & delivery of that property under instructions from yourself & Mr Richard Jones as Mr Davidson's authorised agents in the year 1840 is still fresh in your recollection. –

I have no doubt you also will remember a letter written by Mr Davidson to Mr Patrick Leslie, then in charge of his Uncle Mr Davidson's property, – authorising him to give up the property to Mr Hamilton & undertaking tp pay his Drafts for whatever balance might be found to be due to him in this Colony – for advances &c during his management. – Lest the terms of that undertaking should have escaped your recollection I now enclose a copy of that part of Mr Davidson's letter – as I wish to ask the form of your reply to a question founded upon their transactions –
