[Page 80]

upon his Uncle Mr Davidson in virtue of the letter of guarantee already alluded to – at the term of Two Months, sight for £4000.-.-

I have now to request that you will do me the favor to inform me – whether you considered at the time of the transactions above alluded to – that Mr. W. S. Davidson was bound in honor to have paid his nephew Mr P. Leslie's Drafts upon him, so taken by me in liquidation of the debt due to me – ?

And whether – had I taken legal proceedings to recover my claim for advances made to Mr Davidson's accredited agent & messenger Mr. P. Leslie, you would have hesitated to consider Mr. W. S. Davidson's letter of guarantee – as a virtual acceptance of his nephew's Draft, subject of course (after payment of the debt to me) to a reference to arbitration such as the words of the letter imply – ?

I have to apologise for troubling you with this letter and remain My dear Sir very faithfully yours
Stuart A. Donaldson
