And how utterly hopeless as well as destructive it must be to his character in the Eyes of the public, should he be so ill advised as to proceed. – 

Indeed, I persuade myself that he cannot be so insane – and you will notice how averse I have been, and still am, to see him thus expose himself to the utter scorn & contempt of all honest men. 

That his more immediate Connexions should have allowed him to proceed so far, knowing me as they do, is by no means intelligible – neither are many things that occur in the this World, as you and I well know. –
