Extract from a letter of W. S. Davidson to Patrick Leslie Esq
dated St James's Street London 
30th September 1839 – 

"Your attention will next I conceive be directed to make up and render to me a full, true, & particular account of all your Intromissions since taking charge of my affairs in the year 1837.. – And in order to put any insurmountable obstacle, or even a difficulty of minor importance in effecting these proceedings wholly out of the question, I beg to intimate my intention, and, what is more, I hereby engage to honor your Drafts, drawn at the usual term of two months' sight, for whatever Balance may be found to be due to you on the final settlement, by you in New South Wales of all out Accounts reserving to myself the more common right of hereafter referring to the Arbitration of honorable & Impartial men, mutually chosen any matter which shall be deemed by me, after the fairest construction & most liberal consideration I am capable of applying to the case, to be at variance with either Justice or fair dealing under the peculiar circumstances of our connection –
