Dear Sir,

I have been prevented by unavoidable causes from earlier replying to your note of the 21st ulto enclosing cheque for £34.11. 6 (already acknowledged)

I now beg to say that it is not in my power to accept this amount as a full acquittance on account of the Bridge Street Store, as possession of the premises has not yet been given to the Trustees. It is true that you in your note of 27th April, received by me on the 2nd May, stated that you "desired to give up the premises at the end of the next month" and I was fully prepared to have accepted

Sir W. Macarthur
