Sydney April 24th 1848

My dear Macarthur

I only received your letter of yesterday and am very glad that you are satisfied with the arrangement I have made, as for myself I am sometimes almost sorry that I did not try what a sale of half the cattle would have done, but then ever great difficulties in the way as I will now fully explain to you when I have the pleasure of seeing you. Had there been any troops at Nelson the cattle would turn him worth fully twice as much but there is positerly no Government expenditure then, and I did not [indecipherable] myself instipend[?] in acceding to a proposition of Duppa to join in a shipment, in fact I do not see how it could have been brought about as of [indecipherable] he would have
