J. Macarthur Esq.
Dear Sir,
I am in receipt of yours this morning with reference to the Cattle, and regret much that you are disappointed with them. Agnew is not in Town but I can hardly think that he has played any trick with them. When I wrote you about the brands I did so from recollection of the brands as I noticed them in the pens. I now find that the W/W & M are the Bannockburn brands and the O the Blair Hill brand, in all large lots there are sure to be several beasts strays from neighbouring stations which account for the J.R. & A.A. I regret much that we did not take a particular description of each beast, but it is not the practice in selling lots for responsible well known persons to do so, and the weather being so extremely wet & bad is I fancy why it was omitted to be done on your behalf. I arranged previous to the sale with one of the largest buyers to take from him 30 Bullocks, asking him for that purpose to purchase more than he required.
