With respect to a byre of Cows to be kept on a clay farm in Kent there should not be much difficulty in making a choice.  If the pasture is deep drained to render them healthy for cows any herd will suit.  The Shorthorn cows kept in the neighbourhead [neighbourhood] of London are suitable could they be obtained direct from the country in which they have been reared.  By exposure to contagion in the London Market pleura is almost certain to be introduced into a herd.  The annoyance and loss from Pleura deters most farmers near London
