No. 2

Calcutta 18th January 1846

Messrs. Jas. & Wm Macarthur
Sydney, NS Wales

Dear Sirs,

We have the pleasure to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 1st September last handing us Invoice of 24 Horses shipped per "Theresa" to our consignment for sale on your account, 21 of which arrived safely and were disposed of, and we now beg to wait on you with our account current for the proceeds thereof, shewing a Balance in your favor after deducting charges and one or two small payments made by us to your debt of C Rs. 7581.8.10 which we have appropriated as instructed towards the purchase of the return Cargo for the "Theresa" respecting which we write Messrs. Campbell & Co. more fully by the present opportunity.

We regret we have not been able to assist Mr. Plaistowe in the purchase for you of an Arab Stallion as he will himself explain to you, and in this subject our Mr. Beckwith has also written a private letter to Mr. James Macarthur to which we would beg to refer you.

Mr. Plaistowe takes with him the Auctioners Account Sales of your 18 Horses (3 having been disposed of by private sale) shewing the prices realized for them, which we trust will on the whole prove satisfactory, though the result may not have equalled your expectations, which you must attribute to Calcutta being well supplied just now with horses from your Colony.

Mr. Plaistowe has executed some private Commissions
