Treasury Department,
Rabaul,
16th October 14.

To -
Colonel W. Holmes, D.S.O., V.D.
Administrator,
Military Government of New Guinea:

Sir;
I herewith tender for your perusal the following suggestion:-

That representation be made to the Governor of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, that the Bank now open here be made a Branch of that establishment, and that books and stationary be forwarded from Australia to ensure the system being identical.

The present number of depositors is 160 in the Savings Bank, with total funds of 45,727 marks; and 14 in the Current Bank Account with total deposit of 15,000 marks.   In the next two months this will be easily increased to 500 depositors; the fund increasing accordingly.

As an advertisement it should interest the Commonwealth Bank.   It will also allow of transfer of accounts, and the inducement of a small percentage of interest will greatly stimulate banking business.

I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,
(Sgd.) Walter Fry, Captain
Treasurer.
