BRITISH ADMINISTRATION - GERMAN NEW GUINEA:

Rabaul,
New Britain,
16th October 1914.

The Honorable,
The Minister for Defense,
Melbourne:

Sir;
Banking business here previous to the British occupation was performed through German Storekeepers, as mentioned in a previous communication.   I found it necessary to establish a Bank in connection with the Treasury, and advantage is being freely taken of it by the Troops and private residents.

Herewith I forward a copy of a communication from Capt Fry (the Treasurer), making a request for certain books, stationary, etc.

May I ask that you will kindly refer the matter for the consideration of the Governor of the Commonwealth Bank.

I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,
(Sgd.)   William Holmes, Colonel.
Administrator.
