INFORMATION RE NAURU

How many companies are interested?
There is only one company working phosphate in Nauru, viz, The Pacific Phosphate Company of London.   Their Sydney agents are Wm. Crosby and Co. York St, Sydney.

Are these Companies German, British, or Dutch?
The Company is floated under English law, but under the constitution of the  Company three of the seven directors must always be German,   This is only since the  acquisition of the Nauru Concession.

The Administration to Date?
The amount due to the Administration can only be ascertained on the spot, because the tax is paid directly by the firm in Europe to the Imperial German Bovt [Govt] in Berlin.   There has been no communication between Nauru and here since July and the  date of the last credit made to the German Government is unknown.   The District Commissioner advises the Governor periodically of the amount of the exported phosphate and the sum credited to the German Government, but the amount of the tax is never shown in the Quarterly reports to the Treasury.
The P.P.Coy pays 25.000 M per annum for the right to mine phosphate.   For every ton over 50.000 tons they are charged a Royalty of 1/2 Mark for 1914.   The export was estimated to  reach 150.000 tons this would bring a revenue of 75.000 Mks.   The actual amount due by the P.P.Coy can only be ascertained in Nauru.

What is annual revenue from this place
The revenue excluding phosphate taxes for Financial year 1913 (11 Months) was 116,646.17 Mks.
The expenditure for the same period was 31,895 Mks leaving a cash balance of 84;751.17 Mks in addition to which must be reckoned the revenue derived from phosphates
