BRITISH ADMINISTRATION - GERMAN NEW GUINEA:

Rabaul,
New Britain,
16th October  1914.

Herr E. Haber,
Representing
Imperial German Government:

Sir;
In accordance with the request contained in your letter of the 14th instant, I have much pleasure in forwarding herewith a certified copy of the New Guinea Commission issued to you by the German Imperial Government at Berlin.

I regret exceedingly that the Pocket Book containing your Passport and other personal papers cannot be found, having apparently been removed by some person without authority from Government House at Namanula, your former residence, and I trust the loss of same will not cause you inconvenience.

With regard to the papers now in your possession, I readily accept your word of honour as a Gentleman that none of them contain anything inimical to the interests of Great Britain or her Allies, and I therefore do not propose to search or interfere with same in any way, but agree to your retention of them.

I have written to Colonel E.T. Wallack, C.B., Commandant  of the Commonwealth Military Forces, New South Wales, announcing your departure for Sydney, and stating that you will call upon him at the Victoria Barracks.

I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,

[William Holmes]
Colonel.
Administrator.
