This would not be necessary if the pocketbook containing my passport and other personal papers, which have disappeared from the writing desk in my former house at Namanula, has been brought to Your Excellencys headquarters and returned to me.
Your Excellency have mentioned during our last interview, that you would take my word for the papers in my possession, I here will give my word of honour, that none of the papers in my possession contain anything which can constitute an hostile act against Great Britain and her allies and that nobody, including my government, taking notice of the contents of the papers can use the knowledge for any hostile act, direct or indirect, against Great Britain and her allies. I there fore have the honour to beg, Your Excellency may furnish me with a pass for the papers in my possession.
