A perusal of the pedigree of the A.J.C. Derby winner, Mountain Knight, will be sufficient to satisfy anybody that that colt is bred on remarkably stout lines on both sides of the house. It would be difficult to get a pedigree which contains more successful strains than that possessed by Mountain Knight, and a horse so bred ought to stay as long as there is any necessity. His sire, Mountain King, was by Wallace, who, in turn, was by Carbine (son of Musket) from. Melodious, by Goldsbrough (son of Fireworks and Sylvia) from Melody, by The Barb, while Bonnie Rosette (imp.), (dam of Mountain King) was got by Barcaldine (grandson of West Australian) from Bonnie Rose, by Rosicrucian from Bonnie Katie, by king of Trumps. Mountain Knight is equally well accredited on his dam's side. La Veille, dam of the Derby winner, was by Mostyn (imp.), who was by Clairvaux (son of Hermit and Devotion, by Stockwell) from Miss Mostyn (imp.), by Uncas (son of Stockwell) from Lady Mostyn, by Lord Clifden, while Vigil (dam of La Veille) was by Trenton (son of Musket and Frailty, by Goldsbrough) from Nightmare, by Panic from Evening Star, by Lord Clifden. The possessor of such a pedigree as this could scarely fail to be a gal-loper of a very high order.
In addition to the horses which have already been drawn attention to, Carradon, Feramorz (imp.), John o' Dreams (imp.), Clubs (imp.), Pittsworth Lad, Grain, Mountain Echo, Maltchester, Zinti, Tow, Bunbury, Valhalla, Rockdale, and Sobol (imp.) will be offered for sale by Messrs. H. Chisholm and Co., at the spring disposal of blood stock to-morrow.
