Copy of telegram from S.D.N.O., Thursday Island, dated 13th September.
Following telegram sent to Admiralty, London, message begins: 72 Australian Naval Reserve captured Wireless Station, Herbertshohe, 1 a.m. 12th September, after 18 hours bush fighting over about six miles fullstop. Enemy destroyed tower and Wireless Station will be out of action for considerable period now prospecting site temporary wireless station Rabaul. Herbertshohe and Rabaul garrisoned and base established Simpsonhafen fullstop. Our casualties total two officers killed one officer wounded names already reported fullstop. Reserve seamen four killed three wounded fullstop. Have prisoners German Officers two including Commandant. German Non-Commissioned Officers, fifteen, and Native Police fiftysix.
