My dear MacArthur, 

I wrote you on the 31st July last p [per] Sarah Scott & duplicate p Morayshire. The MidLothian now carries a small Box to your address, containing all the necessary documents from Messrs Whitmore & Co of Lincoln's Inn – and Mr De Salis has obligingly promised to convey to you the duplicates of these documents, p Gen: Hewett on the 15th of next month.

Do me the favor to peruse the printed Book, and also the manuscript part of that entitled "Defendants' Case" (the printed part of it being composed of leaves from the Book) and having done so, I think you will be perfectly aware of what a [indecipherable] Case must be that of my Opponent –
