Rabaul,
New Britain,
9th October 1914.
Dear Captain Stevenson;
As promised, I forward herewith for your acceptance a set of Postage Stamps previously in use here under the German Administration, which I have marked "G.R.I." and surcharged.
Everything is going smoothly here. The Pirate (Jackson) has gone out in H.M.A.S. "Nusa" to mop up the "Komet"; I hope he will not get scuppered himself.
He has a 12 pr., a 3 pr. and a Machine Gun aboard, and is confident he can sweep the seas. I hope he can.
Japanese have not reached here yet.
With very kind regards and best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
[William Holmes]
[The Pirate is Lieut. Comdr. J.M. Jackson, R.N. Kings Harbour Master at Rabaul. He did capture the German Naval Yacht, "Komet". See page 40]
